St. Patrick's Day has been celebrated in Ireland for more than a thousand years, but it was Irish immigrants living in the U.S. who, over time, transformed the day into the lively celebration of all things Irish that we've come to know and love. And while staying in probably isn’t what you had planned for this usually festive occasion, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate St. Paddy’s Day while you’re practicing social distancing. If you’re looking for a little inspiration, here are 5 creative ways to enjoy the day. Spoiler alert: It involves corned beef and homemade green beer.
1. Cook up an Irish Recipe
Whether you’re home by yourself, celebrating with a partner, or just trying to keep the kids entertained, everyone needs to eat. Check out these tasty and traditional St. Patrick’s Day recipes. Don’t forget to set the mood at the table with our Designer’s Choice St. Patrick’s Day Bouquet filled with the loveliest seasonal flowers.
2. Mix up Some Green Beer
If you want to make your own green beer, we’ve got you covered: here are six different methods to make a festive beverage with whatever brew you’ve got on hand. And while you’re creating your latest concoction, enjoy the moment even more with our signature Green Beer St. Patrick’s arrangement. Cheers!
3. Have a Shamrock Cookie Decorating Contest
Decorating cookies can be a part of any holiday, not just Christmas. Gather your little ones (and even your big ones) for the shamrock cookie decorating contest. The winner gets bragging rights and maybe an extra cookie or two after dinner. Add in our Pot of Gold floral display for an even more festive gathering. No matter the champion, you and your quaranteam will have cookies for days!
4. Plan a Socially Distant Scavenger Hunt
Test your luck this year by setting up a scavenger hunt with a few friends, family and the kids — with green masks, of course. You can hide treats around the neighborhood with clues, and, who knows, you just may win the pot of gold! Or better yet honor the winner with our Leprechaun's Dozen Roses arrangement filled with one dozen green roses, gypsophila, tropical foliage and a handmade Luck Charm.
5. Learn Irish Dancing
Irish step dancing is a completely unique style of dancing. Whether you're in it to break a sweat and try a fun new way of working out, or you're looking to really hone a new skill, an Irish step class is a fun way to try something new and get out of your comfort zone on St. Paddy's. There are plenty of online videos to teach you, so you can learn from the comfort of your own home.
We hope this year’s St. Patrick’s Day is a magical and memorable day for you and your nearest and dearest. We can’t wait to celebrate the day and will be thinking of all of you! Your friends at Floral Design by Heidi are sending you best wishes and good times on this most festive day of the year. Cheers!
